At Chorley FC Community Foundation, we’ve always believed in the power of football to bring people together and support one another, especially when times are tough. Recently, Southport FC have shown exactly what it means to be at the heart of a community when needed. Following the events of the last month, the club have stepped up to support their local area, showing just how important football clubs can be in both the good times and the bad.

Amongst their activities, Southport FC have organised multiple fundraising events for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. The hospital means so much to many families across the North West, and Southport’s efforts to support them has been nothing short of inspiring. To show our support to the people of Southport, we at Chorley FC, Chorley FC Community Foundation and Magpies Trust were proud to join forces with Southport FC, raising £1,000 for Alder Hey alongside our fellow National League North club.

Darren Jenkinson, Chair of the Chorley FC Community Foundation, shared his thoughts on the day:

"When speaking with both Chorley and Southport fans at the game on Bank Holiday Monday, it was clear that Alder Hey holds a special place in the hearts of many. Almost everyone knows someone who has relied on the incredible care that Alder Hey provide, so being able to support Southport FC in their fundraising efforts really meant a lot to us. It’s about more than just football; it’s about coming together as a community.”

Julian Vass, Chair of The Magpies Trust  also commented on the fantastic work done by Southport FC:

"The local rivalry between ourselves and Southport was well and truly put to one side on Monday as we both stood in solidarity with each other. The way Southport FC and their community have handled the tragic events in the last month has been nothing short of inspiring to show how football can bring everyone together”

The way Southport FC have responded to recent events reminds us all that football clubs are more than just places to watch the game; they are the heart of our communities, bringing people together and providing support when it’s needed most.

We encourage everyone to continue supporting Southport FC in their efforts to help Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
